Description
This paper helps decision-makers assess concerns such as the safety of unconventional road tunnel designs, especially regarding their impact on fire safety with the option of the tunnel ventilation system. The issues with ventilation for these designs are complex, and investigations considering safety, energy performance, and environmental concerns have to be conducted. A longitudinal ventilation method was deployed for both tunnels. This study introduces an innovative solution to meet tunnel ventilation requirements for normal operations and fire emergency events. The study also validates the effectiveness of Critical Velocity (Vc) and the proposed ventilation strategies through computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations.
