Description
Damper specifications for tunnel projects refer to a wide variety of standards and detail additional functional performance requirements such as fire resistance, elevated temperature operation, leakage rate and pressure loss. Not all referenced standards and specified performance requirements align well with each other or requirements are simply not covered by existing standards.
This paper provides a critical review of the current specified standards for tunnel dampers, highlighting the weaknesses and inconsistencies on the application of these standards in tunnel and metro ventilation projects. The paper addresses the necessity of the development of an international standard dedicated to tunnel dampers which would greatly benefit our industry.
