Description
Enclosed transit stations located adjacent to a tunnel portal, whether partially or portal enclosed, face unique fire hazard mitigation challenges to establish tenable environment for station evacuation. Static and active fire hazard mitigation systems are typically incorporated into station design to achieve hazard mitigation and tenable environment goals. However, site and station geometry constraints can introduce challenges. This paper discusses the impact of these constraints, introduce systemwide design alternatives, and presents numerical simulations of fire hazard and ventilation strategies used to identify viable solutions.
